Press Statement in response to Rep. Sally Kern’s Remarks - Thursday, March 13, 2008
At last count, the Islamic Society of Tulsa included Muslims from over 40 countries and at least 3 Native American tribes. Over 50 % are American born and let’s remember that the others chose to make their homes here when they could have moved elsewhere. Oklahoma Muslims actively contribute to this country’s intellectual foundation through research and the development of the technology that has advanced it, educated the students, cared for the medical needs of its residents, fueled its economy and served in the military to defend this country. Muslims respect the civil rights of all our neighbors and promote cooperation among all people in achieving constructive goals. Rep. Kern’s divisive comments are counterproductive and distract our legislature and all Oklahomans from far more important issues that this state and nation must focus on- poverty, social services, education, the economy and infrastructure.

A Tribute to Muslims in the United States - Thursday, May 24, 2007
Mr. Cole of Oklahoma: Mr. Speaker, I rise to commend an important community in Oklahoma's Fourth Congressional District. It is often said that the media in general does not run enough positive news, and I am afraid that this is especially, and unfortunately, the case for American Muslims. Many have associated the terrible events of September 11, 2001, with the millions of law-abiding, good-hearted Muslims in the United States. I wish to set the record straight about those decent Americans who work to make their communities and our Nation a better place to live, work, and worship.   read more...
Flying While Muslim - Sunday, March 25, 2007
According to the Congressional Research Service, “profiling” is defined “as the practice of targeting individuals for police or security interdiction, detention or other disparate treatment based primarily on their race or ethnicity [or religion], in the belief that certain minority groups are more likely to engage in unlawful behavior.” The debate on profiling has again resurfaced after 9/11 and its most affected groups have been the American Muslim, Arab and South Asian communities.   read more...
Press Release - Saturday, December 09, 2006
The Islamic Society of Tulsa values the great working relationship we have enjoyed with the leadership and fellow residents of Tulsa over the years. Recent media coverage of an incident which happened in the mosque might cause some of your constituents to question our relationship. Thus we feel compelled to provide you with a few facts:
